Early Release Today: Inclement Weather

The National Weather Service has issued a weather forecast which includes possible harmful impacts to our area. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts (70+ mph) and an isolated tornado. The main line of thunderstorms will move through from the west from mid to late afternoon hours, with damaging winds likely and a few embedded tornadoes possible. Their estimation of the impact to Barnwell County is about 4pm to 5pm, which directly impacts our bus transportation home and afterschool activities.

To ensure buses and car riders are off the roads by the projected time of impact and out of an abundance of caution, all school districts in Barnwell County will release early today, May 6, 2022, according to the following schedules.

Kelly Edwards Elementary will dismiss at 1:00pm, and Williston-Elko Middle/High will dismiss at 1:15pm.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our students and staff members is our utmost concern. Current information indicates severe weather beginning at a time when we must adjust schedules to allow our buses to transport students home and return before the greatest threats for damaging winds and possible tornadoes.

As always, we would like to extend gratitude to our county‚Äôs Emergency Management officials and thank them for all they do to prepare us for emergency situations like this.  Our priority is the safety of our students and families, and we encourage everyone to take measures to prepare for the potential impact of this storm.
